"I am outraged. These words are unacceptable in their violence and hatred. They directly target individuals because of their religion and their belonging to the Jewish community, even as they were gathered in a place of worship to celebrate Yom Kippur," stated Ahmed Laaouej. He added, "In Brussels, no one should be targeted, insulted, or intimidated because of their religion or community affiliation."
The Minister reiterated that everyone must be able to practice their religion and attend their place of worship with dignity, tranquility, and security. He highlighted that several Brussels places of worship have been targeted by hostile acts in recent weeks.
"Antisemitism, Islamophobia, racism, and all forms of hatred targeting religious communities have no place in Brussels," continued Laaouej, expressing his support for the synagogue's worshippers. He called for a thorough investigation into the circumstances of these incidents.
