The Federal Agency for Nuclear Control (FANC), in collaboration with Bruxelles Environnement and the Walloon provinces, is launching its annual awareness campaign on the dangers of radon. The objective is to inform the public about the risks associated with this gas of geological origin, encourage measurements in homes, and offer prevention solutions.
The 2026 edition also marks the launch of the new Belgian National Radon Action Plan for the period 2026-2030.
Radon, a radioactive gas naturally present in soils, can infiltrate all types of buildings through cracks or equipment. Although the Brussels-Capital Region is less affected, its presence can be monitored with a detector. Registration is available on the actionradon.be website for €20, including analysis.
In cases of high concentration, solutions such as improved ventilation or the installation of mechanical systems are offered. Residents receive a brochure for simple measures or personalized advice from the FANC for high concentrations.
In 2025, over 4,000 households participated in the Radon Action.
