The strike action heavily impacted the Agency's operations on Friday, allowing only a minority of activities to continue. While some essential services were maintained, numerous collection rounds could not be carried out, leading to the closure of several Recypark sites.
The collection of white bags was particularly affected in several municipalities. The most significant impacts were recorded in Saint-Josse-ten-Noode (98% of bags not collected), Koekelberg (90%), and Woluwe-Saint-Lambert and Woluwe-Saint-Pierre (70%). Major disruptions were also observed in Molenbeek and Schaerbeek (60%), while Evere and Etterbeek experienced moderate impacts. The situation remained more contained in Bruxelles-Haren with 15% of bags uncollected.
Bruxelles-Propreté will organize catch-up collection rounds for the services that could not be provided, depending on available resources. For yellow and blue bags, the advice to residents not to put them out on October 9th and 12th was partially followed. Households that did present these bags are asked to bring them back in and put them out for the next scheduled collection.
Mechanized collections for businesses and buildings were generally well-managed, with only six out of twenty-five residual waste collection rounds not being carried out. Specific collections, such as glass banks, bulky waste, and illegal dumping removals, were largely maintained without reported issues.
Regarding the Recypark facilities, only the Buda and Demets sites were accessible to the public. The Auderghem, Humanité, Sud, and Woluwe-Saint-Pierre Recyparks had to remain closed.
The social movement may also have repercussions on collections scheduled for this afternoon and evening in the areas of Bruxelles-Haren, Evere, Molenbeek-Saint-Jean, Saint-Josse-ten-Noode, and Schaerbeek. The Agency warns that the national day of action announced for Monday, October 12th, could again lead to significant service disruptions, and that a return to normal operations and the complete resolution of delays might take several days.
Bruxelles-Propreté is updating information through its various communication channels and social media, and thanks Brussels residents for their understanding regarding the inconveniences caused.
