The Brussels-Capital Region, in collaboration with the VGC and the Municipality of Anderlecht, is launching a call for projects for the design, construction, financing, maintenance, and operation of a new panoramic swimming pool on the roof of the Manufakture building at the Abattoirs site.

This project aims to address the shortage of public swimming facilities in Brussels, catering to swimming lessons, club practice, and outdoor bathing. It is part of a broader transformation of the Abattoirs site, coordinated by the SAU.
The procedure adopted is a DBFMO (Design, Build, Finance, Maintain, Operate) contract. It targets operators capable of combining architectural and technical expertise, construction experience, financing capabilities, and know-how in managing aquatic facilities.
The program will include at least a 25-meter indoor pool, suitable for school swimming, clubs, and individual practice, as well as a dedicated area for swimming lessons. The possibility of outdoor bathing is also required. Special attention will be given to accessibility for people with physical disabilities.
The rooftop location presents a significant architectural and technical challenge. The project must develop its own architectural identity while aiming for high sustainability performance, including a potential connection to the Abattoirs site's heating network.
Interested teams and operators are invited to consult the detailed project on the Region's public procurement portal, which outlines the minimum program, public ambitions, and application procedures.
