As part of the Refresh program, Bruxelles Mobilité is continuing the renovation of several metro stations in 2026. Following significant work at the Maelbeek and Delta stations, the public body is now undertaking the modernization of the Herrmann-Debroux station, located in Auderghem. This project, with a budget of 3 million euros, aims to enhance the accessibility, safety, comfort, and equipment performance of this strategic station in the southeast of Brussels.
Considered a major gateway to the STIB network for thousands of travelers daily, whether they are residents of southeastern Brussels or commuters, the Herrmann-Debroux station needs to offer a welcoming and functional environment. Commissioned in 1985, it serves as a crucial interchange point for the metro, tram, and several bus lines, and also houses several emblematic works of art.
Specific improvements include the replacement of four aging escalators, reorganization of circulation flows by removing the old mezzanine kiosk, and the installation of tactile paving for accessibility. Platforms and passenger areas will be upgraded with new tiling, cleaning of blue stone and marble finishes, and improved lighting. Special attention will be paid to highlighting the artworks present in the station.
Essential technical work will also be carried out, including the renewal of the fire detection system, compliance of safety equipment, adaptation of electrical installations, and refurbishment of various technical infrastructures to ensure the station's reliability and performance for years to come.
The renovations are expected to conclude by the end of 2027. Additionally, Bruxelles Mobilité will finalize the renovation of the Maelbeek and Delta stations in March and June 2027, respectively. The Etangs Noirs (2027) and Comte de Flandre (2028) stations are next in line for refurbishment.
