This Tuesday, November 17th, residents of Saint-Gilles aged over 60 are invited for a free cardiovascular disease screening, organized on Place Marie Janson by UZ Brussel and the communal public health service.

It is possible to have cardiovascular issues without knowing it, as certain anomalies can develop silently. UZ Brussel is conducting a study across the 19 municipalities of the Brussels Region to detect early signs of these diseases. The mobile unit travels to reach the population and observe several known risk factors such as hypertension, diabetes, smoking, and high cholesterol levels.
The examination will include measuring blood pressure, blood sugar, cholesterol levels, and heart rate. The heart will also be examined using stethoscopes and ultrasounds. The screening is free and does not require prior registration, subject to availability.
To participate, individuals must be 60 years or older, have never undergone heart valve surgery, have no known heart rhythm disorder (particularly atrial fibrillation), and have not had a cardiology check-up in the last five years.
